Dr. med. (NL) Duveken Fontein, PhD

Biography

Dr. med. Duveken Fontein, PhD is a board-certified specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery with many years of clinical experience.

Dr. med. Duveken Fontein, PhD graduated in Medicine from Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2010. From 2010 to 2014, she worked as a PhD researcher at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, focusing on clinical and epidemiological breast cancer research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cornelis van de Velde and Prof. Dr. Hans Nortier.

Since 2014, Dr. med. Duveken Fontein, PhD has been living in Switzerland. From 2014 to 2016, she worked as a resident physician in the Department of Surgery at Cantonal Hospital Olten. She then spent almost 10 years at the University Hospital Zurich in the Department of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, where she completed her specialist training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and subsequently served as an attending physician until the end of 2025.

In addition, she completed several highly specialized fellowships, including a fellowship in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery under Prof. Dr. med. Jian Farhadi, as well as a fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery at Marienhospital Stuttgart under Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang Gubisch and Dr. med. Sebastian Haack. Furthermore, she completed clinical observerships at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, USA), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, USA), Maastricht University Medical Center (Netherlands), as well as at renowned breast clinics in Turkey and Sweden.

Since 2026, she has been part of the specialist team at Plastic Surgery Group AG in Zurich and works as an attending physician at Klinik Hirslanden and Klinik Bethanien.

She remains actively involved in research activities, with a focus on patient quality of life, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and quality of care in breast and reconstructive surgery.

In her free time, Dr. med. Duveken Fontein, PhD enjoys sports such as running, tennis, swimming and skiing, as well as cooking.
