What is PRP for hair loss?
PRP therapy (platelet-rich plasma) is a cutting-edge, minimally invasive method that is used specifically to combat hair loss by promoting hair growth in a natural way. In PRP treatment, we utilise the body's own healing potential to promote hair growth – without any medication or surgical procedures. A small blood sample is used to obtain platelet-rich plasma, which is rich in growth factors. These, in turn, stimulate regeneration of hair roots, strengthen existing hair and promote new growth.
The PRP is injected into the scalp or worked in using a Dermapen. The treatment is particularly effective for early-stage or hormone-related hair loss – in both men and women.
About the treatment
PRP hair therapy is suitable for treating early-stage hair loss, thinning hair or as part of aftercare following a hair transplant. It is important that the patient still has active hair roots, because PRP can only work where regeneration is still possible.
Typical areas of application
- Pattern hair loss (hereditary)
- Hormonal or stress-related hair loss
- Thinning hair in men and women
- Hair loss after illness, medication or surgery
When is it recommended?
- For early-stage hair loss (active hair roots required)
- As a supporting measure after hair transplants
- To improve hair structure and density
- To slow down progressive hair loss
FAQs
Is the treatment painful?
PRP hair treatment is minimally invasive and is generally well tolerated. Before the procedure, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the scalp to reduce any discomfort. During the injection or application with the Dermapen™, you may experience slight pressure or stinging sensations, but these are usually tolerable. After treatment, the scalp may temporarily appear red or feel a little sensitive.
Is the treatment suitable for men and women?
Yes, PRP therapy is suitable for both men and women suffering from hair loss – regardless of whether it is genetic (androgenetic alopecia), hormonal or caused by stress and other factors. It is important that there are still some active hair roots present, because PRP stimulates these but cannot reactivate hair follicles if they are already fully destroyed.
What result can I expect?
Results may vary from person to person, depending on the extent of hair loss, general health and genetic factors.
How often can I repeat the treatment?
For optimal results, we recommend at least 3 sessions at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks. To maintain the effect in the long term, refresher treatments every 4 to 6 months are also recommended. Regular treatment can help stabilise hair quality and slow down further hair loss.
