What methods are available for breast augmentation with implants?

Breast augmentation with implants is a tried-and-tested method for achieving a significant and permanently stable increase in volume. Depending on individual anatomy and the desired result, the implants are placed either under the mammary gland, under the fascia or in some cases under the pectoral muscle.

The size and shape of the implant (round or teardrop) and its exact position in the tissue are determined on an individual basis. Access is usually gained via a small, inconspicuous incision in the crease under the breast. Where possible, we always try to use a minimally invasive method (minimal-scar breast augmentation). Alternatively, incisions can also be made at the edge of the nipple or in the armpit, depending on the individual anatomy and the preferred procedure.

Thanks to modern implant technology and precise surgical techniques, aesthetically harmonious results that feel authentic – often in combination with the patient’s own body fat for a particularly natural result.

About the treatment

Modern breast augmentation procedures offer natural or voluminous results, tailored to your individual wishes and body proportions.

Breast augmentation using silicone implants

Breast augmentation with silicone implants is one of the most proven methods for harmoniously improving the shape and volume of the breast. Depending on your anatomy, the implant is inserted either under the mammary gland or, in some instances, under the pectoral muscle.

A modern alternative is to position the implant above the pectoral muscle, but below the thin muscle membrane (fascia), often in combination with a fat transfer injection. This technique delivers particularly natural results.

We will invite you for an in-depth consultation to decide together which implant position, shape and size are best suited to you. You can choose between round and teardrop-shaped implants – always tailored to your body proportions and aesthetic preferences.

The incision is usually made in the crease under the breast to ensure that scarring is as discreet as possible. In certain circumstances, access can also be gained via an incision in the areola area.

"Cosmetic breast surgery is not about size or what’s considered the norm  – it’s about balance, self-confidence and achieving your desired silhouette."

Treatment stages for breast augmentation using silicone implants
1
Before the operation
Before the operation, an in-depth consultation takes place to determine the size, shape and position of the implant on an individual basis. A physical examination is performed and further medical investigations (e.g. breast ultrasound, mammogram) may be required.
2
During the operation

3
After the operation
The procedure can usually be planned either on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient with an overnight stay. Regular check-ups are performed during consultations. There is no need to have stitches removed. A specialist support bra should be worn continuously (day and night) for 6 weeks. You can return to work after approximately 1 to 2 weeks. Physical rest is important – you should refrain from sports activities for 3 months.

Possible risks and complications
After the procedure, patients may experience bruising, swelling, infection, unattractive scars, hardening around the implant, changes in sensation or displacement of the implant.
FAQs

FAQs

Will I need to replace the implants at some point?

Modern silicone implants are very durable and do not need to be routinely replaced after a certain period of time. A replacement is only necessary if there are medical reasons such as capsular contracture, implant damage or changes in breast shape – or if your aesthetic preferences change over time. Regular medical check-ups are recommended every 2 to 3 years, starting around 5 years after surgery, in order to monitor the implants safely.

Can I still undergo normal tumour screening with the implants?

Yes, regular breast cancer screening is still possible without restriction even with implants. Examination methods such as palpation, ultrasound and mammograms can still be performed. It is important that you inform your doctor or radiologist about the implants so that the examination can be adapted accordingly.

Are the scars visible?

How visible scars are after breast augmentation depends on several factors, including the surgical technique chosen, individual healing and aftercare. The incisions are made so that the scars remain as discreet as possible in the crease under the breast.

What is minimal-scarring breast augmentation?

Minimal-scarring breast augmentation is a breast augmentation procedure using implants, in which particularly short, inconspicuous incisions are made in the skin in a bid to keep scarring to a minimum. Access is usually gained via the crease under the breast with an incision length of only about 2.5 to 3.5 cm. State-of-the-art implant techniques and special instruments enable precise placement despite small incisions. The result is an aesthetic breast shape with scarring that is as discreet as possible.
