How does a breast lift surgery work?
The elasticity of the skin on the breast can decrease with age, after breastfeeding or due to weight loss or genetic predisposition, leading to a sagging appearance of the breasts. Intense physical activity can only prevent this to a limited extent.
During a surgical breast lift, the patient's own breast tissue is redistributed and excess skin is removed. This reshapes and lifts the breast, giving it a more youthful, well-formed contour. The volume remains unchanged.
If the patient wishes to increase the volume of their breast, the lift can be combined with breast implants or fat transfer (lipofilling).
Scars are usually left around the nipple, occasionally also vertically above the breast. In the case of larger lifts, there will also be a scar in the crease under the breast.
About the treatment
During a breast lift, sagging skin is removed and the breast tissue is reshaped. This gives the breast a firmer, more youthful contour. The volume remains unchanged, but can be increased by means of implants or fat transfer, if requested.
Typical areas of application
- Sagging breasts after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
- Age-related loss of elasticity in the breast skin
- Genetically determined drooping breast shape (ptosis)
- Asymmetries caused by breasts exhibiting varying degrees of sagging
- As a corrective procedure after previous breast surgery (e.g. reduction, implant removal)
When is it recommended?
- When the breasts sag significantly and are considered aesthetically unappealing
- In the event of physical discomfort or limitations due to breast shape
- When additional volume enhancement (e.g. through implants or fat transfer) is desired

FAQs
Can I still breastfeed after the operation?
Since breast lift surgery usually only involves tightening the skin and redistributing the existing breast tissue, the ability to breastfeed is retained in many cases. However, this depends on the individual procedure and the glandular tissue preserved.
What will my breasts look like in 10 years?
After a breast lift, the shape usually remains unchanged for a long time. However, natural ageing processes, weight fluctuations and hormonal changes continue to affect the breast tissue, meaning that the appearance of the breasts may change over the years.
Will I have the same sensation in my nipple after the operation?
In most cases, sensation in the nipple is preserved. However, the operation may cause temporary or, in rare cases, permanent changes in sensitivity.
