Breast reduction

Breast reduction removes excess tissue, tightens and reshapes the breast. It alleviates symptoms such as back pain and skin irritation and creates a harmonious, stable shape.

How does breast reduction surgery work?

Breast reduction is one of our most common procedures and offers a lasting solution for breasts that are too large and heavy. During the operation, excess skin and glandular tissue are removed, and the breast is lifted and reshaped, giving it a more youthful and harmonious shape.

Depending on the situation, scars may be left around the nipple, vertically across the breast and in some cases in the crease under the breast (creating an inverted T shape). Using Dr Farhadi's "inner bra" technique, the tissue is also given extra stable support, resulting in long-lasting and stable results.

For women of all ages, breasts that are too large can not only cause distress for aesthetic reasons, but can also lead to back pain, poor posture and skin irritation in the crease under the breasts. Breast reduction surgery can effectively remedy these complaints.

About the treatment

During breast reduction surgery, excess skin and glandular tissue are removed, and the breast is lifted and reshaped. This gives it a harmonious shape and reduces its weight.

Typical areas of application

  • Breasts that are too large and heavy
  • Sagging breasts with excess tissue
  • Back pain and poor posture caused by weight of breasts
  • Skin irritation or inflammation in the crease under the breast
  • When breast size is restricting capacity for sporting activities

When is it recommended?

  • For patients experiencing physical discomfort caused by large breasts
  • When aesthetic reasons impair quality of life
  • After weight loss or pregnancy with excess tissue
  • When conservative measures such as physiotherapy do not provide relief

“We set the highest standards for breast reconstruction and develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. This is the only way to achieve the best possible result and the highest possible quality of life.”

Treatment stages
1
Before the operation
We advise you on the operation and plan the incision. We perform preliminary examinations (such as ultrasound or mammogram) and discuss the risks and aftercare.
2
During the operation
Excess skin and breast tissue is removed. The scar is formed around the areola and above the breast, and in some cases also in the crease under the breast. Wound drainage is not usually necessary.
3
After the operation
The procedure can usually be planned either on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient. Regular check-ups are performed during consultations. There is no need to have stitches removed. A specialist support bra should be worn continuously (day and night) for approximately 4 to 6 weeks. You can return to work after approximately 2 weeks. Physical rest is important – you should refrain from sports activities for 6 weeks.
4
Possible risks and complications
Infections, post-operative bleeding, wound healing complications, unattractive scars or temporary changes in sensitivity in the nipple are usually only short-lived. In addition, temporary pain or slight variation in breast shape may occur.
FAQs

FAQs

Are the scars visible?

Breast reduction surgery leaves scars around the nipple, vertically across the breast and in the crease under the breast. With good scar care, these usually fade significantly over time and are often barely visible.

Can I still breastfeed after the operation?

Breast reduction surgery may impair the ability to breastfeed due to the removal of glandular tissue. Whether breastfeeding is possible depends on the individual procedure and the preserved glandular structure.

Can breasts grow larger again?

The breasts may change or grow larger again due to hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or weight fluctuations. However, the extent varies from person to person and depends on the remaining breast structure.

Will I have the same sensation in my nipple after the operation?

In most cases, sensation in the nipple is retained. However, the operation may cause temporary or, in rare cases, permanent changes in sensitivity.
